MANILA, Philippines – Global memory and technology solutions leader Kingston Technology has announced that its award-winning Kingston IronKey Keypad 200 series hardware-encrypted USB flash drives—specifically the Kingston IronKey KP200 and Kingston IronKey KP200C—have received NIST FIPS 140-3 Level 3 validation.
This certification aligns the Keypad 200 series with the Kingston IronKey D500S, which had previously achieved the same security standard, further reinforcing Kingston’s commitment to delivering highly secure and certified data protection solutions.
Advanced hardware encryption for critical data
The IronKey Keypad 200 series features hardware-encrypted USB drives equipped with a built-in keypad, enabling secure access through PIN authentication without the need for software. Because the drives are operating system–independent, they can work seamlessly across multiple platforms, including Microsoft Windows, macOS, Linux, ChromeOS, iOS, and Android via USB-A or USB-C connections.
These encrypted drives are particularly suited for environments that require secure storage and transfer of sensitive data, such as medical, scientific, and industrial systems that rely on USB interfaces. For organizations managing Operational Technology (OT) infrastructure, the National Institute of Standards and Technology recommends enhanced USB security through its Special Publication 1334 guidance.
Meeting global security standards
According to Kingston, achieving the FIPS 140-3 Level 3 certification involved one of the most rigorous validation processes the company has undertaken in over a decade. With this milestone, Kingston now becomes the first hardware-encrypted USB drive provider with three different models—D500S, KP200, and KP200C—certified to this globally recognized data security standard.
The certification helps organizations better secure data at rest while complying with major global regulations, including HIPAA, GDPR, NIS2 Directive, and California Consumer Privacy Act. It also helps reduce the risks and potential costs associated with lost or stolen storage devices.
Security-focused features
The KP200 series comes equipped with advanced security capabilities designed for enterprise and government use. These include dual Admin and User PINs, allowing an alternative login method if one password is forgotten.
Administrators can also enable Global Read-Only Mode, which locks the drive until reset, or Session Read-Only Mode, preventing any data modification or malware from being written to the device when connected to untrusted systems.
In addition to its security features, the drive is built for durability, carrying an IP68 rating for dustproof and waterproof protection.
Flexible storage and customization
The IronKey Keypad 200 series is available in both USB Type-A and USB Type-C versions and offers storage capacities of up to 512GB. The drives also support Co-Logo customization for organizations that want branded hardware solutions.
Each device is backed by a limited three-year warranty along with free technical support from Kingston.
